The COGNOPAEDIA supplies the universe of discourse for each GRIOT system. The universe of discourse in this case replaces the idea of an application domain. The Cognopaedia is a ontology and knowledge construct.
It uses multiple paradigms for knowledge representation such as:
•frames
•OAV
•scripts
•predicate calculus
Each GRIOT accesses the cognopaedia and uses it as a reference point for its propositions, suppositions, hypotheses, and theories.
Whereas traditional multiagent system consists of a collection of agents working together on a problem, a GRIOT system consists of a group of Griots (Griot is a recursive concept) reasoning together about one or more propositions or suppositions. Their primary objective is to affirm or deny conjectures, theories, and models using theorems, axioms, corollaries, and maxims from their universe of discourse (Cognopaedia).
Agents typically focus on problem solving. Griots focus on defending, defeating or drawing conclusions. Their core processing work is strictly logical analysis and inferencing. The classic agent BDI (Beliefs, Desires, Intention) model is enhanced with several epistemological models of knowledge structuring and knowledge verification.
Two of the most visible components of a GRIOT system are its Cognopaedia and ISIS interfaces.
